The crowd’s biggest call lands, but football keeps everyone humble
The crowd’s most confident call landed: 82% backed Edmonton Oilers, who delivered a 4-3 win over Minnesota Wild. That earns a satisfied nod in the group chat. Across the week to 22 October 2026, there were other confident calls worth celebrating too, though football supplied a few reminders that agreement and accuracy are not always the same thing.

Confidence rewarded across the pond
Los Angeles Clippers had 80% backing and beat Sacramento Kings 121-96. A strong crowd verdict, followed by a scoreline to match.
The NFL brought narrower winning margins. With 76% backing, Buffalo Bills delivered in a result that finished Las Vegas Raiders 30-33 Buffalo Bills. San Francisco 49ers also rewarded 76% support, beating Washington Commanders 23-17. Plenty there for the crowd to feel pleased about, without pretending every call was comfortable.
Crowd vs reality
Edmonton Oilers 4-3 Minnesota Wild
Los Angeles Clippers 121-96 Sacramento Kings
Las Vegas Raiders 30-33 Buffalo Bills
San Francisco 49ers 23-17 Washington Commanders
Wolverhampton Wanderers FC 1-1 Portsmouth
Chesterfield 1-1 Colchester United
The draws that spoiled the script
Only 5% called the draw between Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Portsmouth, which finished 1-1. That was the smallest backing among the week’s listed upsets. A proper reminder to leave room for the draw button.
It was a similar story for Chesterfield and Colchester United: their 1-1 draw had just 11% support. Meanwhile, 11% backed the winning outcome as Borussia Mönchengladbach lost 1-2 to TSG Hoffenheim. Not much comfort in following the crowd there.
No agreement, but a winner all the same
Milton Keynes Dons against Luton Town was the week’s most divided fixture. The split was Milton Keynes Dons 35%, draw 30%, Luton Town 35%. There was barely any separation between the outcomes before the result settled it.
Milton Keynes Dons won 2-1. League One’s wider picture was encouraging too: result accuracy reached 38% against a season figure of 23%, while exact-score accuracy was 6% compared with 3% for the season.
The wider scorecard
MLB led result accuracy at 63%, although that came from just one finished game. NFL and NHL both recorded 54%, with NBA at 53%. Each finished above its season result-accuracy figure.
In football, the Champions League returned 49% result accuracy against 43% for the season, but exact scores proved trickier: 3% compared with 4%. MLS supplied the strongest exact-score accuracy at 11%, while Bundesliga reached 10%. Picking the outcome and nailing the score remain very different challenges. All these crowd figures include every player.
Where the confidence goes next
San Antonio Spurs lead the week ahead with 81% backing. Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions both have 78%, while Milwaukee Bucks carry 75% support.
Those are the strongest crowd choices heading into the next round, not results already in the bag. This week gave us both the satisfaction of a confident call landing and the awkwardness of an overlooked draw. Agree with the crowd or fancy a different outcome? Get your mates involved and make your calls.
