A better week for the collective football brain: the Premier League crowd finished Gameweek 7 with 55% result accuracy, ahead of its 43% season average. Exact scores nudged above the season mark too, reaching 9% against 8%. Across nine completed games, all covered by crowd calls, there was plenty to feel good about. These figures include every player, so this is the whole crowd’s report card.

The big calls came through
The strongest agreement among the best calls was behind Manchester City FC, with 93% backing their win over Ipswich Town FC. The result was 3-2. The crowd got the outcome right, although that backing should not be confused with calling the exact score.
There was more good judgement at Nottingham Forest, where Arsenal FC won 0-1 with 79% behind the away victory.
Then came the biggest scoreline among these successful calls: Brighton & Hove Albion beat Crystal Palace 5-0, rewarding the 75% who chose the home win. A result worth enjoying if you were on that side of the argument.
Crowd vs reality
Manchester City FC 3-2 Ipswich Town FC
Nottingham Forest 0-1 Arsenal FC
Brighton & Hove Albion 5-0 Crystal Palace
Fulham 1-0 Hull City AFC
Leeds United 1-1 Manchester United
Newcastle United FC 0-1 Aston Villa
Not everyone got the memo
Fulham supplied the sharpest correction among the listed upsets. Their 1-0 win over Hull City AFC was backed by just 20%. That was a result which went firmly against the wider crowd view.
The 1-1 between Leeds United and Manchester United also caught plenty out, with 29% choosing the draw. For all the stronger overall accuracy, these were useful reminders that agreement does not settle a football match.
Barely anything between the sides
The most divided fixture was Newcastle United FC v Aston Villa. The split tells the story: Newcastle United FC had 36%, the draw had 29%, and Aston Villa had 35%.
Villa won 0-1, putting the away-win camp on the right side of a very close crowd debate. It belongs among the week’s upsets, but this was hardly a united crowd being proved wrong. There was almost nothing separating support for the home and away wins.
A different view in the crowd table
The crowd table offers another talking point for the group chat. It rates Manchester United and Aston Villa lower, while Hull City AFC and Ipswich Town FC are rated higher.
Set those differences beside this week’s results and there is plenty to chew over: Villa won, Manchester United drew, and Hull and Ipswich lost. That is a comparison worth noting, rather than a reason to declare the crowd’s wider judgement settled.
Over to Gameweek 8
There are no most-backed teams listed for Gameweek 8, so there is no early crowd pecking order to report. For now, the challenge is to follow a week that beat both season accuracy marks. Bring the debate back to your mates, decide where you stand and make your calls.
