The format has grown to match, with a new round of 16 and 52 matches in total from the pool stage to the final at Stadium Australia in Sydney. The opening match is at Perth Stadium.
Every place in the tournament is already taken and the pools were drawn in December 2025. Pool A is New Zealand, Australia, Chile and Hong Kong China. Pool B is South Africa, Italy, Georgia and Romania. Pool C is Argentina, Fiji, Spain and Canada. Pool D is Ireland, Scotland, Uruguay and Portugal. Pool E is France, Japan, USA and Samoa. Pool F is England, Wales, Tonga and Zimbabwe.
Matches are spread across eight stadiums in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney and Townsville, so the tournament reaches every corner of the country. Australia is 9 to 11 hours ahead of the UK, which means plenty of matches will kick off in the morning or early afternoon back home. Call them from the sofa with a brew.
